Lago di Carezza is one of the prettiest alpine lakes we've seen so far. Its clear turquoise water and the stunning backdrop of the Latemar alps is definitely worth a visit.
The lake itself is visible from the main road going up the Carezza pass and there is a paid parking lot and tourist facilities right across the road so it is easy to make this just a 5 minute stop.
However, if you want to make it a bit more interesting and enjoy the surrounding scenery around the lake too, we recommend doing a short loop around the lake.
Trailheads
There are two practical ways to start this short Lago di Carezza loop. Parking directly by the lake is the fastest option, but starting from Via Bellavista gives you a quieter walk through the woods and better distant views before you reach the lake itself.
Via Bellavista
ParkingThis is our preferred start for the loop. Park on Via Bellavista (2 hours max, free), walk toward the main road past Hotel Lake & River, cross the road, and take the trail on the right into the woods.
The route reaches the lake gradually, with a few benches and viewpoints before dropping down to the main lakeside path.

Lake Parking
ParkingFor the shortest possible version, park at the paid lake parking and take the tunnel under the road from the visitor area. The tunnel leads straight to the main lake viewpoint.
This works well for a quick stop, but it skips the quieter forest approach and distant viewpoints that make the full loop nicer.

- Start from the parking at Via Bellavista
- Follow the red trail down to the lake via the lake viewpoint
- Loop around the lake
- Exit the lake via the tunnel, cross the suspension bridge, and hike up back to Via Bellavista
- Back at the car
Follow Via Bellavista towards the main road past Hotel Lake & River. Cross the main road and follow the hiking trail going right parallel with the road.
The trail will take you through the woods towards the lake. The route passes a few quiet viewpoints before dropping down and joining the main lake loop.
After circling the lake, exit through the tunnel, cross the visitor area, and take the trail over the suspension bridge back toward Via Bellavista.

- Low key hotel we stayed at once. They also have an authentic thai restaurant and the food was really good.
Weather & Season
The hike is doable year-round.
Expect snow most of the winter, but the trails are well visible and maintained.
Some steeper sections might require microspikes if you are not comfortable hiking on snow. We did it in approach shoes without any trouble though.
Water
There is running water at the visitor center by the main lake parking lot but the loop is so short that you probably don't need to worry about bringing water with you.

P.S.
This is more of a scenic leg-stretcher than a big hiking objective, but if you're passing Carezza, the lake is definitely worth seeing.
If you are already staying in Carezza, this is an easy add-on before sunset or a rest day activity.
